Moscow Ballet

The Moscow Ballet touring company features top graduates of Perm, Vaganova, Moscow State Academic Choreographic and Kiev schools. Chief Choreographer Anatoly Emelianov returns with Vladimir Troshchenko as co-artistic directors, and Andre Litvinov joins them.

Moscow Ballet is best known for its annual Great Russian Nutcracker holiday productions. The company evolved out of the all-star Russian cast "Glasnost Festival Tour" (1986-92), created by award-winning Juilliard alumnus, composer/conductor and theatrical producer, Akiva Talmi. Moscow Ballet made its debut in 1993, with an all-star Russian cast presenting the Great Russian Nutcracker, directed and choreographed by Stanislav Vlasov (soloist, Bolshoi Theatre).

Originally presented, with choreography by Julius Reisinger, at the Bolshoi Theatre, Moscow 4 March 1877 but superceded by a new choreographic version by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov at the Maryinsky Theatre, St. Petersburg 8 February 1895 and subsequently established as one of the masterpieces of ballet. The famous Act II of Swan Lake, choreographed by Ivanov as part of a memorial tribute to Tchaikovsky who had died the year before, is performed by almost every ballet company in the world. The famous Moscow Ballet of Classical Choreography - "La Classique" was founded in 1990, utilising ballet dancers from the leading theatres of the Cis Countries and the Bolshoi, Kirov and Ballet Theatres of Kiev and Odessa. Moscow Ballet - La Classique has thrilled ballet lovers during hugely successful tours of Egypt, Morocco, France, Spain, Italy, Austria, Norway, Israel, Thailand, Taiwan, China, Japan, Australia and New Zealand as well as the Uk and this world famous company have gained vast international acclaim. Some of the male dancers in this talented Company have themselves achieved star status in their own country and the incredibly athletic Andrey Lyapin is one such principal dancer who is featured in this most entertaining production of Swan Lake. The National Dances featured here are both colourful exuberant and accurate to the finest detail and all performances are a credit to them and to the Moscow Ballet - La Classique trainer Alexander Vorotnikov, lovingly known as "Sacha" to his friends and colleagues, as is the Russian way for anyone bearing the name Alexander. World-renowned soloists Nadezda Ivanova, Andrey Shalin, Andrey Lyapin, and Dmitry Smirnov lead the Moscow Ballet Company under the direction of Elik Melikov.
