Prior to their wedding, Gil and Sydney said and did everything right. Both devout Christians with a desire to spread God's message, their idea of marriage was perfectly aligned with what the bible says it should be; a life-long union in which she was to respect and submit, and he was to love her as Jesus loves the church.
